Goldregen Fini (UFO no more)

Goldregen by Herbert Niebling. I used Habu indigo dyed silk thread purchased during Stitches West many years ago. US 0000 for the first half, US 000 up until the edge blooms and then US 00 with crochet cast-off. Approx. 36 inches across, it makes for a nice little scarf sized Niebling. This is a two year old UFO that is now done at last.

I was knitting along on this project without a care in the world when I had "needle failure" where the needle and cable parted ways. The repair of all the dropped stitches was so traumatic that I didn't want to even look at this after I fixed it. That's all history now. It's so pretty that I am looking for another good Niebling to knit using this thread. I know it sounds like crazy talk but I have two nieces who are finally interested in having something I knit. I can't make one and then not have one for the other niece so I will search my patterns for something that will be comparable yet different.

In the mean time, I still have other UFO's that I will be looking to finish while I'm knitting more Nieblings. Life is good!

I'm so glad you like this one! I'm really happy with the results though working with silk is not as easy as working with cotton or wool!

  8. Dear fleegle,

Thank you! Since I get such pleasure from reading your blog and looking at all your wonderful projects it is only fitting that you get some eye candy from me from time to time :-) As for the leaves that obscure, Let's try a new template. You can always click on the pictures to see them larger on your screen too. I always do that :-)

  14. Dear Marlène,

Thank you for taking time to let me know you like how Goldregen came out! It took a long time but it's really one of the nicer Nieblings I've knit. Thanks again!

  20. Every picture has me saying OMG,OMG! Such loveliness! Please give yourself a little celebration. I would be so "puffed up" myself, if I'd done something like this. But that would only last until the next one started giving me fits.

I am, once again, awestruck by your work!

  22. So beautiful! I can see why the repair would have been traumatic. I got scarred after having to tink sockweight lace. This? Turned out lovely, the work was WORTH it!

  23. Absolutely gorgeous as always -- so delicate and an brilliant colour choice.

I had a similar needle catastrophe when I was working on the Lerwick Lace Shawl. Thinking about it can still make my heart stop!

  27. Dear Carol,

I also think it was worth it :-) Still, It gave me chills every time I picked this one up for months after the needle failure. I'm just glad I got over it!

  28. Dear Soo,

I really love the indigo dyed silks from Habu so I plan to knit something else in another shade :-) I have admired the Lerwick Lace Shawl and have the pattern in my stash for a future project but I'd be really upset to loose stitches on that type of knitted lace where there is pattern in every row! I'd have a heart attack too!
