Swallowtail Shawl and Porcupine Stitch Scarf

Since I forgot to take a picture of the Swallowtail Shawl after it was blocked, I went to Louise's house and took the pictures above. I did not check to see what the dimensions for this shawlette were supposed to be. I just did what looked good to me. Also see above a couple of shots of an old scarf I made Louise years ago. It's knit in taupe coloured kid mohair with a stitch called "Porcupine Stitch" and is the same in the front and the back. According to the book, this type of stitch was used to make fluffy head scarves that were referred to as "clouds" because they were light and fluffy. I'm hard at work on the second Swallowtail shawl and still marching on with Mountain Pines edge.
Until Later!

Oh fine! I'm going to knit this shawl too. Who can reisist after seeing you and Alice do such magnificent jobs with the pattern? And those "nupps" sound... er... fun? Gotta go get a copy of that magazine! :-)

Dear Jason,

I swear to you that this shawlette is not that difficult to do once you realize that stitches that make up the "nupps" have to be made very loosely so that when you have to purl them together (purl 5 stitches together), you can actually get the needle tip into all those stitches! If you happen to own the Knit Picks interchangeable needle set, those are nice and pointy and work well. Make sure to use markers though. It's alot of fun in fact, and a nice alternative for people who don't usually wear shawls. It's really a shawl/scarf. I used US 4 and it takes only approx 437 yards of laceweight yarn. It's in the Fall 2006 Interweave Knits issue and it was designed by Evelyn A. Clark. I will likely make this several times so I can give more of them away because it's such a quick knit. Hope you get to enjoy making this one too!
