Heaven (How White is White?)

Just for Mozilla. You asked if the Heaven is White or if it is not white enough for wedding or bridal white. I actually think it's pretty white. This was shot when I first bought it and is lying on a piece of muslin which is not a very white color. It's not blindingly white however. Now that I have arrived back home from visiting my brother and sister-in-law (holiday grilling!) I have shot the Heaven next to some Zephyr in white on a piece of white typing paper. The Zephyr is actually more white but still not bridal white. Both the Zephyr and the Heaven have a touch of yellow to them. If you are trying to match the white to a brides gown you will need a swatch of the fabric from that gown to match it to I'm afraid. I've been in a few dress shops that did bride gowns. It's surprising how wide a range of "White" there really is. Good luck with that project.

It (has to be) will be, is as white as the gown is :)
Good luck finding a good match!

Do you like knitting with it?

Dear laritza,

I've never tried to make a shawl for a wedding before. I'd be a wreck! I think mozilla needs a swatch of the fabric if she's really needing a match. If she can't match it, should she go a even brigher white than the gown? Is that better than going darker than the gown?

Dear fleegle,

I enjoyed knitting with the Heaven. It's much more sturdy than the Shetland singles I'm knitting WRS in so I feel I can abuse it more when trying manipulate stitches on the needles. It also has a nice slick feel to it once done as a sample. There's only about 3,000 yards in a skein so if I wanted to do Princess in it, I'd need two skeins. I have some lovely cashmere/silk in white I was considering so I may swatch both to see which is the winner.I'd have to wash the sample to get the true effect from the ColorMartUK sample however because it will not "fluff" until the oil is off.

I'll try to order some when I get home and give it a try.

Thank you so much Jane for helping me with my dilemma. In lieu of actually having the dress, i think I will go with the brighter white to be on the safe side. She is not very picky and will love it anyway, since she wears white on a regular basis. I have seen some of the Zephyr white, although it was a superwash, that was pretty white and I contemplated getting so I may order up some silk/wool. Thank you again!

Dear mozilla,

You are a brave soul to be knitting for a bride. I congratulate you on your fortitude!
Zephyr has a lovely drape and is very soft. I'm sure it will be lovely. Good Knitting!

I just discovered your blog and I love it! I love the way you really focus on lace. It's great! Good luck with your white bridal project! It is amazing, isn't it, how many different shades of white there are!

Dear Jenny,

Thank you checking out the blog! I'm really enjoying lace and reading everyone elses blogs. It's great fun. I'm not the one making the bridal shawl, thank goodness. It's mozilla who's doing it and was just wondering about the various degrees of white yarn out there. She's really brave to do this for someone but what a wonderful and loving thing to do.
