Lyra, Row 111 (Vacation Knitting)

Back from Tahoe where the water is so blue I wish I had some lace weight yarn the same beautiful color. When I wasn't sitting by watching my friend Louise gamble, I did a little knitting. Louise spent 3 straight hours playing roulette one day, I spent the same amount of time knitting on Lyra. I had fun in my own way though I think the staff cleaning the rooms thought I was nuts. I stopped at row 111 because it was time to come home and I need the next size needle once I get to row 113. The pattern as well as people who have knit this lace before me suggest that a larger needle is needed or this work will not lie the way it should once blocked. I'm on US 2 now and will go up a size. I'm loving how it looks and now I will get to work on the "flower" as well as the outer leaves for the shawl. I plan to make it round rather than the square shown in the magazine since that is one of the options. It won't be a huge shawl. Maybe 48 inches across if I'm lucky. It ends with a crochet cast-off. Oh joy. You all know how much I loath crochet. Still, it is turning out pretty so I guess it is worth it. :-)

Looking good Jane, I wish I could find three hours to just sit and knit on a Lyra, course I would need a Lyra pattern first!

I think circle over square too, I like them round.

I also got busy on a doily, and am getting close to finishing now, you are right, they are addictive little things, all hell could have broken out around me, and I would just have kept on knitting.

That's looking gorgeous! I'm so jealous and can't wait to start.

Thank you so much for all the pointers on my blog. I do have the English translation for the chart symbols so with that and your tips I have a great starting point.

Still tapping my fingers impatiently!!

It might not be Tahoe blue but it is a lovely color. Check on the mms of the US2 needle that you have. Most are 2.75 mms but Addys are 2.5mm. So that you have the right mms in the next needle size you use. The flower is a joy to knit as well as the leaves. On the crochet cast off: what the magazine says it to work a sc with each bundle of stitches. But in the Modern Lace books, she says to use a DC. I did that with ROE and like it much better. Just check it out, you might like it better too. I shall not cast on!........

Looking really wonderful! Love how the leaves form. Well, after this is done you just may have to! go shopping for a Tahoe Blue lace yarn / cotton! I laughed at your mention of the cleaning staff as I suppose they hope/expect no one to be around when they make their rounds. Terry

Your Lyra is stunning. I hope that one day I'll be able to get my hands on that pattern.

Sounds like Tahoe was fun!

Dear Kathy,

Yes. Those doily's make for a quick knit. I have my eye on another one as I type this but I won't start it yet. I have way too many things to finish first! Lyra is knitting up nicely but it's hot out here today so knitting is not so attractive right now.

Dear Donna,

I really hope they publish these at Burda. I joined the Neibling Group at Yahoo and wrote a letter to them asking them to re-print these patterns. I really hope they do it so everyone can enjoy them.

Dear Soo.

You won't be sorry. It's really fun to knit. I hope you don't have to wait too long!

Dear erasmus,

I don't blame you for wanting one. I saw another one posted on E-Bay but once again it's in German. Still, if you have the chart key in English it's not too difficult. I posted the link to the Lyra Learinging Group in the side-bar of my blog under "Stuff". They have lots of information and hints there if you ever get a copy of this lace pattern!

Dear Laritiza,

Thanks for the help! I'm on 2.5 mm needles so I will go up to a
2.75 mm. I'm on Addi Turbos for this one. As for the cast-off, I will have to take a look and see what you are suggesting. I have no real experience with crochet but I'm sure you are right about it being a better alternative. I will check it out!

Dear littleberry,

Sheer bliss indeed! I can't remember when I last had three hours of uninterrupted time to knit. I made good progress but now I guess I will have to slog along. Ah well!

Dear Terry,

The cleaning staff were stunned to find me in the room knitting. They actually wanted me to leave so they could clean so I sat by the pool for awhile and knit. I'm nothing if not accomodating!

Dear missalicefaye,

It really was nice. No commute to work, no cooking, no cleaning. Just me and the knitting. Heaven!

Dear Z's momma,

Welcome! Glad you could drop by the blog. I'm enjoying knitting Lyra and it's moving along so it won't be "forever" in the making like some of my other efforts.

Dear badcatdesigns,

Thank you! I'm really enjoying this pattern. In the Lyra Learning Group posts they talking about "binding" in the third set of leaves on the stem of the flower. The leaves do sort of bunch up but I don't think it's so crucial since this is a shawl and does not have to really lay flat like a table cover.

Dear Opal,

It is lots of fun. I hope all the Niebling patterns get published because there does appear to be more of an interest in lace lately. Great time to bring his work back. I hope you get to knit it too!

Man, that's pretty. Love the color.

Dear tracy,

I love the color too. Without realizing it, I've bought different yarns in this color more than once. I have it in tencel and in tatting cotton as well as one more cone of this pretty cashmere/silk. I guess I have a weakness for this particular color. I'm loving this pattern even in the sections that are not "perfect". from a blocking stand point. I'm not being criticle though. Heck, I could never make a pattern like the one's this man came up with. I'm just grateful to be able to knit them! Thank you for checking in and leaving a comment. It's always nice to hear from everyone one!
