Fuchsia Doily (085/18) So it wasn't Bleeding Heart

According to Mary Francis at Lacis the flowers in this doily are supposed to be Fuchsia. Too bad. I kind of liked the idea of "Bleeding Heart" or "Love Lies Bleeding"but then I'm a morbid kind of person at times :-) Using US 0000 for the center and US 000 for the remainder, it was made with one ball of Flora 50 in red from a burda magazine in German "Alles aus Garn: Kunststrickent / Folge 1. I'm not perfect. It has mistakes (0ne reason why I will likely never enter a county fair) but I learned new things with this doily so I am very happy. Thank you to every one out there who helped me to figure out how to knit this doily and to everyone who is enjoying this lace as much as I enjoyed knitting it. I am in a finishing frenzy now so I hope to post more completed lace soon.

It is stunning! What lovely work you do.

Might I ask how you photograph it? You do a masterful job.

Jane, it is breathtakingly beautiful. And you can call it anything you want! It's your fabulous creation. So there!

That is gorgeous -absolutely beautiful. I love the colour, it really brings the (already amazing) pattern to another level.

US 0000!?! :: faint :: I need to get reading glasses. Seriously.

It looks awesome! I say it looks more like Bleeding Heart than Fuchsia. "Love Lies Bleeding"? What book are your reading now? :-)

it is *drop dead* gorgeous, jane! i'm with fleegle, it's your creation. you can call it whatever you want! though i'm wondering with jason as to what you're reading. "Love Lies Bleeding"? Hrm. I do like that better then "Bleeding Heart" though. ;-)

The flowers are the edge of the doily remind me of a sort of demon/dragon type thing. Of course, that might just be because I'm a fantasy nerd. I'll bet most people see flowers.

Dear z's mamma,

Thank you! I like this pattern as well. It knits up nicely.

Dear ann,

I'm happy you like the doily. I just have a digital camera with a "macro" function so I can shoot closer up. I also use a natural light bulb since I always end up taking pictures at night with no real day light. I think missalicefaye has really nice photography of her work myself.

Dear fleegle,

It really did come out nice in red and I still think it looks more like "Bleeding Heart" AKA "Live Lies Bleeding". But that could just be Halloween comming on :-) Glad you like it!

Dear Soo,

I'm fond of knitting the doilys with color so I'm happy that it is going over well with everyone. I just get tired of all that white though it really is classic!

Dear Jason,

After knitting on the WRS for awhile, US 0000 is not so difficult a stretch, especially since the thread is very sturdy. I am not making up the "Love Lies Bleeding" thing. It really is another name for "Bleeding Heart". Honest! Either way, it is pretty.

Dear agneta,

Thank you! I always enjoy posting the doilys since everyone gets a quick hit of lace!

Dear Opal,

I do like to read the odd vampire novel as you can see from my Librarything covers so I prefer the "Love Lies Bleeding" as well!

Dear Ria,

Do you know, that is one of the things I liked about this pattern? That it looks a bit like "Little Shop Horrors?" LOL Not your gentle/kind doily in red. Not for me, Nope! :-) Nice to hear from a fellow Sci-Fi nerd.

Dear missalicefaye,

Thank you! I know you have to wait awhile before eye cand shows up here but I do eventually finish stuff LOL!

Wow, another stunning piece!! I never would've thought of doing it in red but it's spectacular.

quite simply stunning; as always of course!!!! I think "Love lies bleeding" or "Bleeding Hearts" sounds more appropriate....

Dear Jane,

I don't know if you have time for TV. There's a new vampire series on CBS called "Moonlight" that sounds interesting. :-)

WOW. (And Elton John's song is going to be playing in my head all night now.)

I gasped when I saw your pictures today. Really lovely.

Gosh, that's stunning! It has a surprisingly modern feel to it, I think, what with the bold color and the very striking motifs. (In other words, this is not your great-grandma's doily! ;-)

Dear Kat,

Thanks! I really like to knit with color but I still like white doilys too! Of course, one of my co-workers thought it could only be useful at Christmas!

Lacefreak said...

Dear littleberry,

Yeah, I'm bloodthirsty enough to prefer "Love Lies Bleeding" or "Bleeding Heart" as well :-)

Lacefreak said...

Dear jason,

Ooooh! I will have to check that out!

Dear alisonh,

Anything that causes you to flash on an Elton John song is a good thing :-)

Dear badcatdesigns,

It does sort of stand up and shout "Notice Me!" I've never been accused of being subtle LOL. Glad you liked it.

Dear beths,

I think that "non traditional" aspect of some of the Niebling lace is why I like them so much myself. I'd hate for this type of lacework to disappear. I hope they re-print his works. It would be great if up and comming knitters got a chance to see if they can put a spin on the patterns and make them their own.
