Lyra (Blocking)

Just a few shots of Lyra blocked and drying. I didn't want to make you all wait until it was dry to get a look. I think I have to go out and buy another box of pins! I will try to get shots in day light once it's dry. It fluffed a bit, has a little shine now the oil is washed off. I used very hot water and Synthrapol to remove the oil. It is approx. 46 inches across at the widest point. I'll re-cap all the stats with the final pictures. Good Night To All.

Stunning piece of work. Brava!

Lacefreak said...

Dear Diane,

Thank you! Now it's done I can slave away on the Sampler Stole edging LOL. Actually, this was much much easier to knit than the WRS is turning out to be. The yarn is much easier, the pattern has plain knit rows every other row and the needles are larger. A really satisfying knit. It really is very pretty too!

Dear fluffbuff,

I'm happy you like it. I think it's one of the more graceful bits of lace I've ever knit. Once you get used to those charts it's actually fun to knit. I have my eye on some other Nieblings to knit as well but first I want to finish more of my outstanding projects :-)

Beautiful beautiful beautiful!

He really is a genius ol' Herbie. And you've done a brilliant job. The yarn and clour are perfect.

I love it. And seeing yours makes me want to start another one!!!

That is beautiful!

Would love to see how you're going to wear yours. May I request action shots?

Beautiful, beautiful work!

Oh my It's the most beautiful Lyra on record! The color is absolutely perfect. I forgot--what yarn is it? And the knitting is perfect, as always. Will you wear it as a shawl?

Beautiful! I can't get over how detailed the lacework you do is!

Once again, you made me gasp. What amazing work you do. Thanks for the pick-me-up.

Beautiful! I'll eagerly await the preview. I would imagine you do need alot! of pins to block this one. Terry

Fabulous work! It truly is a labor of love (speaking from experience). Now that the Niebling bug has bitten, which one will you try next? Hope to see at Lacis one of these days,

Sandy

Holy mother of lace, Batman! Words defy me for I am stunned by the beauty that is your Lyra.

I do believe I may be in love with you.

The colour is simply amazing! That kind of periwinkle-lavender-ish colour is one of my favourites! You are so amazingly skilled. I want to be you when I grow up. :)

Lacefreak said...

Dear Soo,

I like it so much that I plan to knit it again but as an actual table cloth/doily this time. My Niebling addition just keeps on going :)

Lacefreak said...

Dear Z's momma,

I don't know about "action" but you can have a shot of the "headless knitter" wearing it. I usually don't wear my shawls but this one is really pretty so I might make an exception! Glad you like how it came out.

Lacefreak said...

Dear nurhanne,

Thank you for your kind words. I only knit the lace. Herbert Niebling was amazing at designing it! I plan to knit more of his patterns.

Lacefreak said...

Dear fleegle,

Thank you! High praise indeed coming from you. I plan to wear it just to cover my shoulders a little but I rarely feel comfortable wearing a shawl. I used Colormart 2/36 NM cashmere/silk in color "Polka Dot". Its nice and soft but holding it's shape well

Lacefreak said...

Dear ria,

I'm glad you like the shawl. It's not as hard to knit as the WRS by Sharon Miller and it's only 180 rows long so not endless torture!

Lacefreak said...

Dear Michelle,

Thank you! I really like the shawl too.

Lacefreak said...

Dear missalicefaye,

Happy you like it! I love your knitting so much that it's nice to come up with something that makes you happy too! I'm looking at several others to make so I hope this is just one of many Nieblings in my future. Enjoy!

Lacefreak said...

Dear crazyfiberlady,

Thanks! It's a great pattern to knit. Everyone is being really nice about it even though you know I have mistakes in it (I never knit anything "perfect"). Still, a man on horseback etc.

Lacefreak said...

Dear badcatdesigns,

We aim to please! Happy you are enjoying the eye candy.

Lacefreak said...

Dear Terry,

I had to break into a new box of pins to finish blocking this. I also bent a few trying to get all those little bits stretched out. Not bad for "eyeballing" it.

Lacefreak said...

Dear Laritiza,

Thank you! This was really one of those things I just had to knit seeing everyone elses beautiful versions. It really is true I get inspiration from you and everyone else who knits and shares on the net!

Lacefreak said...

Dear Sandy,

But such a fun labor of love! I am hooked on Nieblings and I'm looking at about 5 patterns to try. I'm afraid I stare at my stash and all those patterns a long time before deciding what to use. Goldregen is really tempting and I might knit it with silk. However, no new big projects until after I finish the edge for at least Boundary Waters. As for the knitting group at Lacis I never know if I will have time to try to go or not but it's always interesting to me to see what you all are up to!

Lacefreak said...

Dear creme knits,

Thanks! I love it when the lace has impact! I guess that's why I prefer to knit in colors rather than plain white. Thank you for your encouragement!

Lacefreak said...

Dear Opal,

So does that mean I drive a lace-mobile? Zowie Opal! Glad you enjoy the eye-candy! You do understand that your cats would not be allowed to use this one as a blankie?

Lacefreak said...

Dear Ryn,

Thank you! I hope you don't have to get as old as me to knit lace like this. That would kind of suck! Knit it NOW. Don't wait until you have menopause like me and have to knit in the middle of the night with bi-focals and a fan on because of hot-flash-hell :-)

Karla (ThreadBndr) said...

Jane, that's LOVELY. I'm determined to do this one now. I love your color choice, it's so dramatic.

Lacefreak said...

Dear Karla,

I would love to see you knit this too! It was such fun that I plan one day to make it again as a doily. I love the color as well.

I have spent much time reading your blog and I am in absolute awe of your lace knitting abilities. Is this a gift or can it be developed by more and more lace knitting? I Just joined the Neibling lace group and really need to get a pattern so I can begin. The lavender shawl is probably the most beautiful thing I have ever seen I am afraid if I were to hold it it would make me weep.

Dear Ahrisha,

I actually learned to knit as an adult and had a terrible time with lace when I first tried it over 20 years ago. I could not read charts so the only lace I could knit was written patterns. I did that for a number of years and then gave up knitting lace in frustration. It's only in the last 3-4 years that I have taken it back up again and made an effort to learn to read charts. It really is a skill that can be developed so don't give up!I have to use highlighter tape or something under each line of the chart so I don't loose my place. Sometimes in a long chart row, I will even break the row up using a post-it note to block off part of the chart row so I don't get too confused. I don't knit fast at all, but I'm a steady knitter. Belive me when I say, it will eventually get done and you will begin to understand how stitches all work together. Good Luck and I'm glad you joined the Yahoo group!
