You Can't Knit Just One Niebling ("Lachskonigin" AKA "Salmon Queen" Doily)

Just a short post since this is, for me, a three day weekend. Did I mention that I can't knit just one lace project at a time? Some get finished sooner than others and some, like the Peacock Shawl, are destined to never be finished by me (maybe someone else will get this project). However, this never stopped me from casting on more lace. See above the start of "Lachskonigin" also known as "Salmon Queen" for some reason. It's another Niebling doily that I bought from doilyhead and you can see a picture on her Flicker Site here . I did the center on US 0000 and then switched to US 000 ( I have ordered circulars in US 0000 and even smaller but they have not arrived yet). I'm using my favorite thread Flora #50. Too bad they stopped making that size of Flora but I have been stashing it so I have enough there to keep me going for a long time.
Also, what do you all do about those large chart inserts in the Anna and Burda magazines? I started buying those old magazines on E-Bay and some of the inserts are "crispy" with age. Now, I'm not collecting magazines for their value as antiques. These are not "first editions" folks. I buy them because many of those darned Niebling patterns have yet to be re-published and I want to knit them! But I was concerned that I would just plain not be able to read the patterns in some of these old magazines or they would just crumble when I went to go Xerox them in the future, they are that old. So what did I do? I scanned them and then cut and pasted them together. I then used plastic laminating sheets on top of these scans to preserve the print. You get a huge sheet and I roll them up until I need them. You can see from the last picture that I also will cut out a pattern and label them when I want to use them. I can stick highlighter tape on these patterns and I can save them for later as well. I keep them in a large, flat, cheap art portfolio. I could just scan them and save them to a disc I guess but I always did like to be able to flip through pages and patterns with my hands. Old dog getting older here :-)
Good Evening and Good Knitting!

That's a beautiful pattern and I love the color.

Anna magazines: I print the one I'm thinking about working on. Unfortunately, I'm a magpie and the newest shiniest brightest Niebling usually grabs my interest. This means that I actually have a bunch of charts printed out, but not that many actually done.

Oh, and Salmon Queen just went in my Niebling queue.

Like z, I scan them, print out the picture and the design, and put them in clearbooks.

And like z, the newest Neibling gets my vote!

That will be lovely, as always, Jane!

i take them to the copy store and make one large copy then fold to whatever size the pattern is. Did you laminate the huge page? or just pattern by pattern?
10 Princess points as of last night :D

I am going to say it again. (I think I said it before. LOL) I don't know how you have so many projects going. I pick one up and can't put it down until it's finished. I am trying very hard to balance my time between holiday knitting, Spider Queen and Spinning. I must be more Virgo than I think. LOL

Love the color you chose for Princess. It's going to be fantastic when it's finished. I wonder if I should get that pattern for the future. I know I can't do it now.

Do you knit at work??? I don't know how you get so much done so fast! :-)

Beautiful new Niebling - always such tasteful, wonderful colors you choose. And that is such a great idea for preserving your patterns and having them available for use easily. You a smart one!! Terry

Ingenious. :) I should probably consider using laminating sheets, considering all the various beverages I'm always spilling all over the place. I'm not sure how my knitting has escaped unscathed so far....

I just work from the folded up insert - which is probably silly as the paper is quite dry and prone to tearing. Copying the patterns first is a good idea (but due to my inherent inability to do sensible things I probably won't).

And the lavender yarn for your Princess Shawl is gorgeous.

Dear Z's momma,

I'm glad you like the color. It's not Salmon but it's nice. If the pattern page is not crispy, I also just Xerox the one I want to use but one of these magazines was so darned old that I was at risk of having nothing but crumbs! So I did the whole thing. I also have tons of charts copied that I have not yet knit, but when we do get ready to start, there will be nothing to delay us:-)

Dear fleegle,

Our scanner is old and does strange things when I scan stuff into my computer. It's actually easier for me just to use it to copy directly. Glad to know it's not just me who has a method. Like yourself, I like to have more than one iron in the fire so I'm glad you are enjoying the doily. It's just something to take a break from all the edging.

Dear laritza,

I did not even know you could actually copy the whole page! It's so large I thought it would not be possible. I laminated the whole page this time only because this is the copy of the one that is crumbling. Usually, I just copy the one I want to make and laminate that. I think I will try doing the whole copy thing but I will have to take the original together. Maybe I'll just have them copy my scan?

Dear Jason,

Don't be too impressed. I am always in danger of not finishing something because I have too many things going. I always have a pad of paper with the row I need to do next with the project so even if I pick it up a year later, I know what row is next :-) I still have Spider Queen, WRS and Shetland Tea Shawl that are in the wings to be knit and you are more productive than I am because I do not knit for others for the holidays. I buy stuff. I can't knit on demand.

PS Jason,

No, I don't knit at work and if you want fast you really need to be talking about missalicefaye, fleegle or Laritiza LOL. As for getting the Princess pattern, it would depend on if it is a limited release yet again or if it is like the other patterns, available for a time. It cost a pretty penny and for now, it is more than you could knit. But it is fun to knit :-)

Dear Terry,

Glad you like what I selected I have a fondness for this color and since I have to stare at this shawl for a long time to come, I wanted something I could stand. Of course, fleegle has this yarn too and it may be that we will both end up using it but I think that would be nice as well. I like to laminate the charts because the ink kept coming off on my highligher tape and the shape is so odd that they don't often fit in plastic sleeves.

Dear missalicefaye,

So I'm not the only one spilling on myself while I knit? I actually try to drink clear liquids now when I knit because coffee is just not coming out (shudder).

Dear Soo,

fleegle and I have excellent taste in yarn LOL. Actually, I think once Princess came out, there was a run on ColourMart yarn :-) I'm too clumsy to knit from the insert. I'm forever tearing them when I try to do that, hence the laminating sheets. Harder to destroy :-)

I love your work, shawls and doilies. What diameter does the doily finish at?

Dear Kerry,

The original pattern was knit on US 00000 needles with size 120 crochet cotton and ended up 45 cm round, however, I am using a larger set of needles and size 50 thread so no doubt it will be larger. How much larger I have no idea :-)
