You have all been very patient waiting for a few pictures of the Sampler Stole now that I finally got around to blocking it so here we go :-) My lovely model is my niece who got to help me out before we left to go to Yarn Place so I could give it to them as a store sample. The first two shots are in daylight so you can see what it looks like in natural light. The rest are shot with flash. For those in the Sunnyvale area of California, Yarn Place is moving their storefront so they have everything in the store on sale ! And yes, that is a Mummy Kitty tee shirt she is wearing. Don't ask. Since I was at the shop, I got to get a look at fleegle's Spider King and her Red Lyra. The are spectacular! Her Lyra has no binding at all since the yarn she used has more elasticity than mine (mine has a very little bit of binding in the area of the arch around the flowers"). Too bad they won't let people take pictures at Stitches but I can't wait to see them hung up on display. That's it for now! Hope you are all having a great weekend :-)

Sampler Stole Finished (finally)

That's beautiful! You did lovely work and the I like the fun colorway.
Beautiful! I wish we could find or come up with more knitted on edges. Sideways edges are not my cup of tea either! Beautiful!
that is a beautiful stole.
I've been toying w/ going down to Yarn Place for the sale, but the gas and headache to get down there offset the 20% savings.
Your niece looks beautiful and that stole is just gorgeous. I hope you had a great weekend too!
It's gorgeous. At first I wasn't sure how I felt about the striping yarn, but now, after seeing it in action, I like it -- kind of gives a modern twist to the traditional stitch patterns. Now that it's done, though, I bet you miss doing edging. :-)
I can't believe you guys are knitting these masterpieces and then hanging them in a shop.
It's stunning to be sure! The subtle color changes are wonderful. Your model is quite beautiful as well!
The stole is absolutely beautiful.
And I am incredibly jealous of this Yarn Store place with a sale where you Fleegle and Z's Momma get to hang out!!!
Lovely shawl and lovely niece. :) I like the subtle variegation. Very nice!
Oh my, another truly beautiful piece. You are such an inspiration. Can anyone tell me how I can get a lyra pattern? and is Burda any closer to republishing the Neibling patterns? Love your work!
It's much lovelier modeled on your niece, for some reason. It looks alive! Thanks so much for taking the time to post a follow-up picture.
And in return for your lovely comments, I tagged you. See my blog for details!
It's fabulous and I love the subtle color changes.
I really love the colours in the yarn you used for that! Such a beautoful stole!
Dear domesticshorthair,
Thank you :-) I'm trying to be careful with yarns that colorshift since they don't always look great with lace. It's nice that this one worked out though.
Dear Laritiza,
I agree! I was thrilled when I got to the end of the Swallowtail Shawl and found that all I had to do was keep knitting and the edging was done! I will see if I can find a few others like that :-)
Dear Z's Momma,
It a a tiny hole in the wall shop and everything is being boxed up so it's not much to look at right now. I have not checked to see if the on-line store has the same discount or not but I will check once I get done here.
Dear Opal,
Thanks1 This came out so nice that I'm eyeing the other balls of Gentle in the stash to try to decide what to do with them next. No more stoles for awhile but maybe something else? Weekends are way too short if you ask me :-) We had a great time and since I won't see the nieces at Valentines Day this year we gave them both red envelopes as well as Valentines day gifts. Fun for everyone!
Dear Dave,
I'm happy you like how it turned out. I have to say that it does help when the colors are in large enough blocks so you can actually see sections of lace without a lot of problems. I need to keep that in mind the next time I spin something :-) As for hanging the stole in a store what can I say? They asked if I could knit them something. Besides, when I get done, if no one wants it, it just goes in a drawer anyway! I was surprised that my niece (the one in the picture) actually thought it was pretty so this may be the last "store sample" since she's starting to show a little interest in the stuff I knit :-)
Dear Diana,
Thank you! I think my niece is very pretty too. She was being a good sport letting me use her as a model and it looks much better draped on her than it would on me.
Dear Soo,
Actually, fleegle doesn't live near this yarn store at all. I'm not sure just how she got her stuff to them :-) Seeing her lace in person was really a treat! It's more beautiful in person than in the pictures for sure. Once the folks at Yarn Place move the store it will be more of a "hang-out" type of place. For now, it's really tiny so not really a place to hang. There is always the on-line store if they have fixed their problems with the site :-)
Dear Oceanknitter,
Thank you! I appreciate getting your perspective on it. After I've been knitting something for awhile I sometimes can't tell how anyone else will see it once it's done. I'm glad its subtle since the lace work is so delicate and I have this bad tendency to pick loud yarns :-)
Dear Sharon,
Thanks! No, Burda is not any closer to publishing his works, more the pity. Most people bid for Lyra on E-Bay when one surfaces as I did for mine. You can always check to see by typing in Herbert Niebling in their search box.
Dear fleegle,
Since I know you are kind of "off" this type of yarn for lace, I'm glad it looks pretty good to you now it's finished. You know, I've been told by quite a few people now that "action" shots are more appealing to display the lace but those shots are actually more difficult for me to do well. I got lucky since it was sunny where my brother lives. Maybe I will pay my niece a "model" fee to display the lace for me :-) I will go to see what you have "tagged" me with after I get done here!
Dear fluffbuff,
Even I was surprised how subtle the colors came out once it was blocked. Glad you approve!
Dear Ria,
I think it's beautiful as well but then I think all of the Sampler Stoles I've seen are beautiful. Thanks!
Lovely, of course--as all your work is lovely. :) I think the mummy kitty t-shirt is awesome, too. :)
Dear missalicefaye,
My niece is kind of "goth lite" so the Mummy Kitty was one of the things we gave her for Xmas this year :-) I'm happy with how the stole came out over-all so I won't be embarrassed to have it hanging up on display.
I love your stole, it's gorgeous.
Dear Kerry,
Thanks! I'm please with how it came out. I won't be too embarassed having it hang out in the Yarn Place booth at Stitches West :-)
