Just a short post to say that I've cast-on Hyrna a second time using the heavy lace weight yarn I spun from the roving purchased at Stitches West from "Chasing Rainbows" in colorway "Lagoon". I'm knitting on US 4 at the start then went to US 5. It's knitting up much nicer this time and I even understand the instructions for the darned shawl better the second time around now that I've read the notes compiled by Jackie. Anyone considering knitting this shawl should check out her very helpful notes. I know it helped me a lot! I was really not enjoying the previous attempt at Hyrna so maybe it was fate that I dropped that stitch . I'm using my very nice glass needles from Michael and Sheila Ernst so it's now turned from knitting torture to knitting pleasure :-) I have put away the Polworth for awhile and will reconsider what to do with it later. I also have been busy spinning up the Black Bunny fiber in my stash. It's too rough for a scarf but may still make an interesting/sturdy type of a shawl. The socks are more Black Bunny yarn that my sister has knit up into socks for me so I can finally get rid of the socks I've worn holes into :-). Lastly, I'm still spinning very thin singles from my Blue Moon Fiber Arts roving that I got at Stitches West 2007 (takes me a long time to get to it all). I'm on a "reading" and a "spinning" jag so not as much knitting as usual but I can only do those two things for so long before my hands itch to get back to the lace. Now if I could only get that hour back from daylight savings time.....

When I knit Hyrna I followed Jackie's instructions. I think I wrote that with the pictures of the finished piece. Lovely!
I keep wanting to knit that shawl, but I am still looking for the perfect yarn. I'll know it when I see it.
In the meantime, I can sit back and admire your lovely rendition :)
The second version of Hyrna is wonderful, one of those days I am going to knit it. It should be easier for me as the original pattern is in Icelandic
While everything looks delicious, my favorite is the BMFA fiber you're spinning up. Those are my absolute favorite colors!
The color movement in you Hyrna 2.0 is wonderful! That will be gorgeous. You have some nice spinning going on. I love the Chasing Rainbows silk blends...
Hyrna looks nice and it definitely makes a difference if your happy knitting it too :o)
Am awe in of your spinning it's lovely what with Alpine I can't get any spinning done at the moment :o( so I shall just admire yours for now...
gorgeous pics.
Dear Laritiza,
I think I got the information about Jackie's notes from looking at YOUR beautiful Hyrna! I hope mine comes out half as nice.
Dear fleegle,
After one false start I can see what you mean about trying to find the right yarn. I wish I had trusted myself when I was knitting the WRS and selected a different yarn then too. I know you will find just the right yarn eventually but there is so much to knit that I know I will have fun watching anything coming off your needles :-)
Dear stashdiva,
Lucky! You might still want to read Jackie's notes. Those hand written charts are a little bit confusing in some spots and I know I would have been very frustrated If I hadn't been made aware in advance. Those notes saved my sanity!

Dear Opal,
I love the BMFA singles too! I'm taking my time with them and spinning as consistantly as I can so I can make a nice big project with them :-)
Dear badcatdesigns,
This is the first time I've tried this company's fiber and It spins up really nicely if you take the time to pre-draft the fiber. The silk has a nice glow to it and the colors do shift really nicely for this pattern. I'm really happy that I switched the yarn :-)
Dear littleberry,
I'm trying to do a little more knitting/spinning this year and it's a challange to figure out what to do with the yarn sometimes. Don't worry. The fiber and wheel will still be there when you finish your Alpine project. Besides, Alpine is worth the effort! I'm really happy knitting Hyrna now and it's moving along quickly!
