Arrggh! (Yeah. I Screwed Up Hyrna)

Yes dear readers. I screwed up Hyrna. I dropped a stitch, picked back and could not figure out what row I was on. There is also a point on this shawl where the middle of the shawl turns into a third "petal" for want of a better word and I got hung up at this point as well. Also, let's just admit it right now. I do not like this polworth yarn that I spun very much. It's just not sexy at all. I trashed the first attempt and will try it again, but I can't promise anything. I'm not feeling the love from this project yet :-( On a better note, I'm up to row 67 on that Niebling Tablecloth! I can't call it Peony because there is another Niebling that has been discribed as that, so I will just have to keep calling it the Tablecloth! I finished the center rosette and have started the stem/leaves for the flowers. In the shots, you can see the difference between natural light and flash. I used the flash from far back, shooting at night, and the camera made it a darker color than it really is. The second shot, where it is light pink, is in natural light and is closer to the real color of the lace and yarn. Go figure! I'm also up to row 117 of the Niebling Center for the International Shawl. For those with the white Japanese Ichida book there are errors on row 87 and row 101. Thanks to fleegle, I could make corrections but I think those sections of knitting were really "fugly" if you catch my drift. I'm really glad to be past them. Other than those very painful rows, the knitting has been fun and I still love the Niebling patterns better than almost any other lace knitting I've done. Since I have been buying fiber lately in lieu of yarn, I also took a little bit of time to do some spinning. The blue yarn is what I spun from the Chasing Rainbows Dyeworks roving in the "Lagoon" colorway. I am trying to spin something more substantial to give my spinning a little variety. It's a heavy lace weight and I'm not sure what I will do with it. Maybe a heavy cable/lace scarf? The Green Border Leicester/Mohair Top is from Black Bunny Fibers and the colorway is "Mermaid's Tail". I spun it nice and thick in an effort to practice spinning something other than lace weight. This will be given to my sister to knit into something since I'm not planning on making anything with it. It's not really soft enough for a scarf but maybe a hat and wristers? It's getting a little warmer out here so I imagine my knitting will begin to speed up a little bit. I hope that's the case since there is so much lace and so little time! Hope you have all had a great weekend!

Jane,
Thanks for the error note. I will put your post in my book. Better yet, I will ask Fleegle to give me her corrections. "Fugly", in reference to knitting charts, scares me. I think that both your knitting and your handspun look lovely. Thanks for sharing your up-date!

Both Peony and International are fabulously lovely! But then, how could you possibly knit an ugly anything. I put International aside for a while so I could work on my normality shawl and my sideways seamless baby sweater.

I actually dug up yarn to knit Hyrna. It's going to be weird, as I am going to use yarn from my mother's stash. Yes, she bought that yarn before I was born. I'll se how it works up, assuming the yarn doesn't fall apart.

Sorry to hear that. I did something similar. Tink and reknit.

Sorry to hear this, but from previous projects I know what you mean: Something there is that doesn't love a wall (or a knitting project as we modern people would say ;p)
What about Chinese Rose instead of Peony? Or the Latin word, Paeony?

What didn't you like about the polworth? Was it the color or the fiber itself? I've just acquired quite a bitfufhq and I'm not feeling the love like I thought I would.
Love the Niebling. You make me want to drag out my patterns and start one.

I'm so sorry to hear about the dropped stitch! How frustrating.

I love the blue yarn. So silky! I think it would make beautiful wristers.

Dear badcatdesigns,

I hope the corrections make sense to you and I hope no one has to go through those sections without them! Most of my knitting is making me happy. It's only the occasional bomb that makes me want to rip my needles out and toss the offending lace :-)

I can't wait to see a little of the normality shawl and the sideways baby sweater. I think it's very exciting! I've noticed you don't knit anything that isn't spectacular yourself :-)

Dear laritiza,

I didn't frog or tink I cut it off and threw it in the garbage. I have started the Hyrna again in a different yarn and I'm a lot happier with the result. Will post it next time :-) Of course, i could still screw it up but I hope not!

Dear pinneguri,

All good suggestions for names :-) I will have to think about it a little bit more.

Dear msleo,

I know I responded in Ravelry, but just for others. I think I spun this fiber too thin. It's not substantial enough for the pattern I selected and the colors came out very muddy so I'm not liking it so much now. Good luck with your fiber as well but I think I might buy some undyed polworth and dye some myself in a really bright clear color and see if it is any better!

Dear Opal,

I think the dropped stitch was fate. The blue yarn is now the one I'm using for Hyrna :-)

Dear hhhhildegarde4,

I am knitting the Princess Shawl but I'm only on the edging so far. Yorksett is also knitting it as well. It is the one from the Heirloom Knitting site that is for Sharon Miller Patterns. I have not been working on it recently but plan to work on it a little more when I have a bit more time. The edging does require you to really pay attention so I feel your pain!

Dear littleberry,

Thank you for the warning about the Alpine Lace (shudder). No matter how much I knit lace, there are always patterns that make me break out into hives. I guess it's just an occupational hazard! I'm doing a little more spinning this year and hope to make more than one hand-spun lace object this time. I hope you have more sucess with Alpine!
