Busted! ("Legends" is in the Spring 2008 Spin-Off Magazine)

Badcatsdesigns busted me first. I guess she got her copy of Spin-Off Magazine earlier than I did :-) Last year just before Thanksgiving I got an e-mail from Amy Clarke Moore asking if I would be willing to have the Legends of the Shetland Seas stole in the gallery of the Spring 2008 magazine. She had seen it on Flicker. I was really surprised since I don't think my spinning is all that terrific. There are many spinners with much better technique than I have. I guess what I lack in spinning skills was made up for with the lace knitting . In any case I agreed, vain thing that I am :-) Amy was really very nice and it gave me the incentive to finish up the stole so I could send it to the nice folks at the magazine. I must say, they took better pictures of it than I did. Back to knitting Laminaria!

Dear Laritiza,

Thank you! I got a big kick out of having something in Spin-Off since I've been a reader for such a long time. I'm really happy that it was this particular stole since I think I did a good job on it and my color/fiber selection worked out so well with that pattern.

Yeah!! Echoing what the prior posts say, congratulations!!!!! I will have to have you autograph mine :) You are too modest about your spinning. Terry

Oh how cool! Now I have to get my hands on a copy just so I can say "See? This is my friend's shawl. Uh-huh. I *know* the woman who made this." ;-)

Dear Pie,

Thank you! I don't know if I deserve it or not but I certainly did not say "No" when they asked LOL.

Dear Soo,

Thanks! At Last! My 5 seconds of fame have arrived!

Dear fleegle,

I think everyone who knits deserves an award. As for the stole, it was hard work but it was FUN work :-) Besides, I needed to do that stole for a going-away present for a co-worker who I have known for many years. Now all I have are my pictures, the memory of the fun and a copy of the magazine to remember it by :-) Much better than having it languish in tissue in a box!

Dear Rosa,

Thank you!Since I also get inspired by all the blogs I look at, it's only fair I give a little too :-)

Dear June,

Thank you! It's a pretty darned good issue this time too and there are other very lovely hand spun shawls in the gallery to admire.

Dear Miss T,

Thank you! I appreciate hearing from you:-)

Dear Beth,

Thanks! I have been reading this issue on and off and there are lots of good articles in this one. I have some fiber from Chasing Rainbows on the wheel as I type this. It's going to be awhile before I can knit with it since I have to do a total of 8 ounces and that takes forever to spin since I'm going for pretty thin singles.

Dear Sherilan,

Thank you! I have often forgotten to renew and been reduced to looking for a copy on the newstands so I understand your plight. I hope you enjoy this issue, and not only because I'm in it :-)

Dear Terry,

Thanks! As long as my spinning takes me where I want to go then I can't complain but I've seen really superior spinning at the local county fair and it puts my stuff to shame :-)

Lacefreak said...

Dear Opal,

I have to say I was really pleased and astonished they wanted to take pictures for Spin-Off because I've been reading it for years myself. I never thought I'd be lucky enough to be in it myself. You just never know :-)

Dear Sheila E,

I missed you at Stitches too! It was so crowded and we got turned around so many times it became very confusing! I'm so happy you like the stole. Most of the credit should really go to Lisa Souza for the beautiful colorway though. I love her yarns and fibers. I used your wonderful glass circular needles recently for the Hyrna shawl. They were heaven!

Dear Sandy,

Thank you! It was really great fun to be asked to have the stole in the magazine :-)

Dear badcatdesigns,

Thank you! I was afraid to mention it was going to be in Spin-Off in case it turned out looking crappy next to the other lace shawls in the gallery. You never know about those things but I do think it holds up next to the others :-)

Dear littleberry,

Thank you! Castro Valley is out in the boondocks so it always takes awhile for me to get my copy of the magazine as well. But this time it was worth the wait for me LOL
