When You Don't Have A Model (You Borrow A Dress Form)

Just a few more pictures of Copritavolo and Hannelore dry and draped on a dress form. The folks at A Verb For Keeping Warm were nice enough to let me borrow it for a few shots in day light. This way you can see the size of the shawls and how it looks on a bit better. You have to take my word that they look better on the "dummy" than they would on me :-) I'm working on another Niebling but this time using Wensleydale hand spun. That's it for now.

It's so beautiful that I can't believe what I see.

You could drape these over a compost heap and they would still be exquisitely gorgeous! Thanks for the extra eye candy :)

Dear Rosalia,

Thank you!

Dear Angel,

They do look nice draped on a form. You get a much better sense of how they look.

Dear fleegle,

Thank you! A few people asked if there was any way I could show how they looked on someone so this was what I came up with.

Dear Cherry,

Thanks :-)

Dear Katie K,

Thanks! They look really nice in natural light. I'm thinking of getting a dress form of my own but I have to figure out where to put one in our small house.

I'm starting to read your blog from the beginning. I'm trying to teach myself to knit lace. Please tell me it's possible?

I hope I can still see...and bend my fingers, by the time I figure it out!

As much as I agree with fleegle, anyone trying to adorn a heap of compost with these would deserve being stabbed with the finest set of addis straight in the heart;)

I don't believe a dress form or a dummy might ever replace a person who moves, drapes, gives lifelike appearance to the folds of lace.
It's synergetic - a person gets adorned in such a beautiful thing to look better, and at the same time lend life to an inamimate object, extending the limits of conventional beauty.
You're the maker and the wearer - always better than a dress form (though it's a useful little(ehm) gadget:)

Dear Michelle,

Of course it is possible!Lace is just knit, purl and yarn over stitches most of the time. Welcome to the wonderful world of lace! Just start with bigger needles and bigger yarn first so you don't hurt yourself. I can't believe you would want to read this blog from the start but good luck!

Dear Carol,

I have to admit that the color of this yarn is really spectacular in daylight. The shimmer and play of colors makes this one of my favorite shawls as well. Glad you like it too!

Dear Ola,

I appreciate your feelings about having the shawl on a "live" person. I seldom wear my shawls but perhaps I can con my niece into modeling for me when she returns from college :-)
